Abstract

Endocrine disruptors (EDs) are substances or mixtures of substances that disrupt the endocrine system with negative implications for human beings and their offspring.

The main effects of EDs on health have been investigated in the last decade but many EDs and their mechanisms have not identified hitherto.

In this review the main effects and mechanisms of action of some EDs on the pituitary, thyroid, adrenal glands and gonads are described and possible future developments are discussed.
